Webmaster's note:
This album title so perfectly describes the whole essence of Bream - THE ART OF JULIAN BREAM. To top it all off, it has a great picture of the young artist playing his guitar. He was a good-looking young man in a perfect pose for a guitarist. His coat, guitar, skin and hair are all warm shades of browns and tans with a very pleasing shade of sky blue in the background. It was his first album cover for his first and only long-term record label. It really set the tone for his 40-year tenure at RCA and propelled his career into the "sky". Sure, this album cover probably would not "do" by today's standards but it was "classy" yet it has a sense of "newness". The album cover still holds up incredibly well as a vintage album cover for a classical musician. The curse of a picture like this and an album title that refers to generalities, (instead of the actual musical content of the album) is that every compilation for the next 100 years will want to use The Art of Julian Bream as its title. This title and picture are by far the most overused on compilations even when the compilation contains very few selections from this actual album. Additionally, it has been used on a book title and I'm sure a few magazine articles have probably used it as well. It leads to a lot of confusion but this picture and title have become the visual signature stamp to his musical legacy. Iconic in the world of classical guitar! That is why I also chose to use it on the home page of this website.
