Some personal reflections from June Crisfield Chapman:
"During the sitting, almost continuously, Julian Bream played a single chord to keep his hands in position. The variety of emotion he brought to those few sounds seemed to me, as I painted, to be infinite. A child prodigy, this world-famous lyrical, passionate guitarist gained an O.B.E., a C.B.E., Honorary Doctorates, Fellowships, dedications. The picture pose had its own rhythms - the back of the chair, the guitar rest, the guitar, the head of the sitter, eyes concentrating, intent."
